Job Search Obstacles: A FloodGate Medical Industry Survey
Let’s just put it all out there… finding a new job is hard work. It is hard enough during a normal job market and even more so while living through a global pandemic. Helping people find their next employment opportunity is our specialty… and we know firsthand how difficult it can be and the obstacles that come with it. We surveyed medical device industry professionals to fully understand their thoughts and feelings surrounding this every important topic.
Below are the results captured by this survey:
There was an overwhelming 81% of our survey participants who shared that they have actively applied for other opportunities within the last two years. Of that group, 68% responded that they are very ready to make a move to a new role or a new company. These numbers somewhat surprised us with all that is going on in the world today. We are seeing that many industry members are being loyal to the companies that have served them well and responded positively to the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year.
While this large group of people may think that they are ready to make a move and genuinely want that to happen… they haven’t necessarily put in the time and effort to do so. That’s where we come in! We have multiple different options depending on how involved you’d like us to be. Our services range from a self-guided eLearning program to resume services to a peer group boot camp, all the way to having an individual and dedicated career coach.
Here are the top job seeker obstacles directly from medical device industry members:
Most candidates struggle to engage in successful networking with their connections which leads to not knowing about available opportunities until it’s too late. Many times these jobs aren’t even posted for active applicants or they’re only posted as a formality.
With in-person interactions at networking events, trade shows, office visits, and other opportunities to meet with peers at an all-time low, people are feeling the effects. Such a sudden change in personal interactions, many weren’t prepared to do all of their networking in a remote environment. They feel they haven’t adequately built a strong enough network on LinkedIn and other social networks.
This step in the process is very important! Almost half of our survey participants indicated that their resume still a work in progress and could use some help. This is your first impression when applying for a job. Make sure you have all of the necessary information included that will grab the attention of the HR department or Hiring Manager.
Job Search Confidence
A slightly smaller number responded that they are not confident in their ability to apply and actually land a new opportunity. There are many things you can do to help this confidence level.
