MedTech manufacturer · Field sales expansion
Standing up a 75-person field organization in fifteen weeks
A manufacturer needed four regional sales managers and seventy-one sellers hired and ramped in time for its National Sales Meeting. The request landed on May 2. The meeting was August 16.

An entire field organization had to exist, be hired and be ramped inside a fixed window set by a date that couldn't move. The National Sales Meeting is where a sales year starts, so a territory still empty on the day is a territory that starts the year behind. Seventy-five seats at once isn't a search, it's a staffing program, and it has to run without the quality of any single hire dropping because of the pace.
What every seat had to clear
- Four regional sales managers hired first, so they could help hire their own teams
- Seventy-one field territories covered across the country
- Everyone onboarded and ramped in time to be productive at the August meeting
- 01
Leaders before the teams under them
The regional manager seats were filled first and fastest. A region with its manager in place can interview, assess and close its own territory hires, so every manager seat filled early multiplied the capacity working on the rest.
- 02
Territories run in parallel, not in sequence
Seventy-one territories worked as concurrent searches rather than a queue, so no territory waited behind another and the slowest market didn't set the pace for the rest.
- 03
Measured against the meeting, not against the offer
The deadline wasn't an accepted offer, it was a person ramped and productive on August 16. Start dates and onboarding were worked backward from that date rather than treated as the client's problem after the placement.
Every regional manager seat filled by July 24
All four in place with three weeks to spare before the national meeting.
79% of territories secured by July 24
The large majority of the field in place well ahead of the date.
More than 60 hires placed in under 50 days
At a pace of better than one hire per day across the program.
Onboarded in time to be useful at the meeting
The new organization arrived at the National Sales Meeting ready to work rather than still being hired.
The cost of a bad talent decision is almost always greater than the cost of the hire itself.
