Candidate FAQs

The questions candidates ask FloodGate most: what roles we fill, whether to apply to everything, working with more than one recruiter, and what it takes to break into device sales.

The questions we hear most from candidates, answered the way we answer them on the phone.

What roles are available in my area? Can you share any other resources?

Roles reach you through the network. Submit your resume once and a Talent Director who works your corner of MedTech will contact you when a search fits what you do. Additional resources to assist you in your search: the Candidate Resource Center and the Compensation Guide.

What types of roles do you help fill?

We help with MedTech opportunities ranging from entry-level to Executive positions including Sales, Sales Leadership, Clinical, Operations, Marketing, Quality Assurance, R&D, Market Access, Medical Affairs, National Accounts, Finance, HR, and Contracted Employees.

Should I apply to every available opportunity?

No. It's tempting to do so, but not advantageous to your search. You want to apply to roles where you meet the minimum requirements and meet many of the ideal qualities the company is looking for, or you may end up with rejection letters and feeling disappointed.

We recommend a targeted approach to your search. Identify the top 10 to 15 companies you would love to work with. Connect with people via LinkedIn or your immediate network to learn about the company, its culture and other areas of business that are important to you. If there is alignment with your goals, and the open positions are a potential fit, then apply or ask someone within the company to refer you directly to the hiring manager.

Review open roles that are posted on LinkedIn and by MedTech recruiting firms. Apply if the company and the requirements are a fit. Do you live in the geography specified in the job? Do you meet the minimum requirements? Do you see an alignment with the core values and culture of the company? If so, apply. If not, keep looking for the right opportunity for you.

Should I work with just one recruiter or multiple recruiters?

While we would love to be the one and only recruiting partner to help you find your next role, it's important that you connect with multiple reputable recruiters, because each firm has clients who they work with at any given time, and it increases your odds of finding the right company fit for you.

What experience do I need to break into medical device sales?

Breaking into the medical devices industry is both challenging and exciting. Typically hiring teams look for 1 to 3 years of B2B or outside sales experience with documented success. Great examples of companies that offer this would be:

  • ADP, Paychex, Paycom
  • Xerox, Konica Minolta, Staples Business Advantage, W.B. Mason Company Inc., Canon, Ricoh, HP, and Sharp
  • Cintas, Unifirst, Aramark Uniform Services
  • Total Quality Logistics, FedEx, UPS, Penske Truck Leasing
  • DocuSign, Salesforce, and Insight Global
  • Coca-Cola Company, Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits, E. & J. Gallo Winery
  • United Rentals
  • Comcast Business
