Musculoskeletal and Regenerative Medicine recruiting and talent strategy.
Jessica HellquistTalent Director
Regenerative musculoskeletal products sit between the operating room and the clinic, and the commercial question is usually reimbursement before it's clinical preference. Coding, coverage policy and site of service all change the economics, while the products themselves depend on tissue processing, biologics regulation and clinical evidence. Scientists, quality and regulatory leaders, clinical specialists and commercial teams all have to carry that combination.

Inside musculoskeletal and regenerative medicine.
A search usually sits in one of these areas, and often spans two or three.
Cartilage and tissue repair
Cell-based and scaffold approaches to focal cartilage defects, along with the allograft and matrix products used in the same procedures. Cases are concentrated among sports medicine and cartilage restoration surgeons, and cell and tissue processing, regulatory pathways and a two-stage reimbursement process shape the business.

Regenerative orthopedics
Platelet-rich plasma, bone marrow aspirate concentrate and related autologous preparations used in office and surgery center settings. Much of this is cash pay or inconsistently covered, so device design, clinical evidence and practice development need to stay within what the evidence supports.

Bone healing
Bone growth stimulators, graft materials and the fixation adjuncts used in nonunion and delayed union. Prescription-based stimulators run through documentation and prior authorization, while graft materials rely on biomaterials science and regulatory clearance.

Tendon and ligament repair
Augmentation scaffolds, biologic patches and the anchors used in rotator cuff and Achilles repair. These products are added to an existing procedure, so revision-rate evidence, device engineering and quality all matter before value analysis weighs the incremental cost.

Where musculoskeletal and regenerative medicine searches go wrong.
The assumptions that cost the most time, and what tends to be true instead.
“A strong science background is enough to build a biologics business”
Surgeons ask about evidence, then they ask who pays. Coverage varies by payer and by site of service, and a company that can't answer a coding question loses the account to one that can. The hires who work here pair clinical or scientific fluency with reimbursement knowledge, which is a narrower pool than either skill alone.
“Implant quality systems cover tissue and cell products”
Human tissue and cell-based products sit under their own regulatory framework, with donor screening, processing controls and traceability that implant manufacturers don't face. Quality and regulatory leaders from implants often need time to learn it. Look for people who have run a tissue bank, a biologics quality system or a cell-based submission.
“Recruit from the implant side, the customers are the same”
Customers overlap, but the business model doesn't. An implant business supplies a preference item into a scheduled case. Regenerative products often have to be built into a clinic workflow, priced for a cash-pay patient or appealed through a payer. Leaders who have built a product without automatic coverage adapt faster than those who haven't.
