Wound Care and Skin Health recruiting and talent strategy.

Wound care spans acute hospitals, outpatient wound centers, long-term care and home health, and each setting has a different buyer and a different reimbursement path. Products range from dressings and biologics to negative pressure systems and support surfaces, so materials science, tissue processing, device engineering, clinical, regulatory and market access talent all matter. Commercial teams carry clinical education and contract work together.

Inside wound care and skin health.
A search usually sits in one of these areas, and often spans two or three.
Advanced wound care
Dressings, antimicrobials and topical therapies for chronic wounds that have stalled. Materials science, clinical evidence on total cost of care and in-service training for bedside nurses all decide whether a product wins and keeps a formulary position.
- Materials Scientist
- Clinical Research Manager
- Clinical Specialist
- Strategic Account Manager
Negative pressure wound therapy
Pumps and disposable dressing kits that manage exudate and close wounds faster, placed in hospitals and then rented or sold into post-acute and home settings. Pump and dressing engineering, service logistics and utilization tracking matter alongside new placements.
- Electromechanical Engineer
- Service Operations Manager
- Clinical Specialist
- Post-Acute Account Manager
Burns
Burn centers are a small, concentrated set of verified units running skin grafting, debridement and temporary coverage. Tissue engineering, clinical evidence and relationships with burn surgeons define the work across a named account list.
- Tissue Engineering Scientist
- Medical Science Liaison
- Clinical Specialist
- Key Account Manager
Skin substitutes
Cellular and tissue-based products applied to wounds that won't close on their own. Tissue processing, regulatory pathways and coverage policy drive the business, so quality, regulatory, reimbursement and clinical evidence teams carry as much weight as the field.
- Tissue Processing Manager
- Regulatory Affairs Manager
- Reimbursement Manager
- Territory Manager
Diabetic foot
Offloading, debridement and adjunctive therapies for diabetic foot ulcers, managed by podiatry, vascular and endocrinology. Amputation prevention is the argument that moves administrators, so product design, outcomes research and referral pathways between specialties all matter.
- Product Design Engineer
- Outcomes Research Manager
- Clinical Educator
- Therapy Development Manager
Pressure injury prevention
Support surfaces, repositioning systems and skin assessment programs bought to hold down hospital-acquired pressure injury rates. Sensor and surface engineering, quality reporting data and nursing leadership relationships make this closer to an enterprise decision.
- Sensor Engineer
- Clinical Consultant
- Product Manager
- Corporate Accounts Director
Where wound care and skin health searches go wrong.
The assumptions that cost the most time, and what tends to be true instead.
“Wound care experience is wound care experience”
The buyer changes completely between settings. A hospital sale runs through value analysis and supply chain, an outpatient wound center sale turns on procedure reimbursement, and long-term care and home health are contracted through corporate chains. Someone who grew up selling into acute hospitals may never have negotiated with a post-acute group, and that gap shows up early.
“Skin substitutes need scientists, not quality and regulatory leaders”
Cellular and tissue-based products sit under a regulatory framework built around donor eligibility, processing controls and, increasingly, clinical evidence for coverage. Strong science without quality and regulatory leadership produces products that can't be supplied or paid for. Look for leaders who have run a tissue quality system and a coverage-grade study.
“Reimbursement knowledge can be taught after hiring”
In skin substitutes and advanced therapies, coverage policy is the product. A team that doesn't understand site of service differences, coding and documentation will generate volume that later gets denied, and the account will blame the company. People who have lived through a coverage change and kept accounts intact are worth more than people with a larger book of business.
“The ideal candidate already holds this exact title, at this kind of company, in this therapeutic area, and will take it for less than they earn now.”
The best markers are whether someone has repeatedly sold into the same call points, navigated a complex sale and its failures, built a territory, launched new technology, or can point to real examples of building champions for a product. Then listen for ownership: candidates who talk in I, me and my rather than passing the blame to they, them and theirs.
